John’s alarm went off at 7:00 am on the dot. The little red light blinked on and off, as the screeching horn blared. John’s arm slapped the snooze button as he rolled over in bed. He had too much to do today at school, but needed another moment of sleep.
“John….John are you awake?” his mother yelled from the bottom of the stairs.
“Yes mom” seeped slightly muffled out from John’s mouth buried in pillows.
John rolled over on his twin bed. His sheets were in a tangled mess on the floor, still anchored to the base of his bed. Out the window, the sun was just peeking through the window, as it rose over the corner of the Anderson’s roof. The streaks of sunlight flowed gently in, hitting the pictures of John and his little league baseball team with a gentle yellow glow. In one corner sat John’s desk, piled with textbooks, all the traditional ones, Calculus, Biotechnology, History of the Internet, How Google took over the Internet etc.
“JOHN, hurry up, you’re going to be late” John’s mother yelled again.
John lethargically rolled out of bed, picking up the sheets and comforter that had fallen off the bed during the night. He gently folded the sheets back, making his bed. He knew his mother would come check if he’d made it, and he knew if he didn’t he wouldn’t get his internet money for his weekly gaming session with Rob, Isaac and Peter.
Throwing on his favorite sweater, jeans, and thin black sneakers, he loaded his textbooks into his bag and walked downstairs.
“John there’s toast on the counter if you want it, or fruit in the bowl but since you’re running behind you’ve got to eat quick this morning! I’m going to be late for work so eat in the car” his mom proclaimed.
John grabbed the plate of toast from the counter, threw an apple in the pocket of his bag and bent down to put his shoes on.
